CASE STUDY 1 – INDEPENDANCE

CASE STUDY 3 – PRACTICAL SUPPORT

“Following a freak accident leading horse into a stable, I spent 2 ˝ months in hospital recovering. The MDIRF supplied full-time grooms to keep my business going and helped me with specialist appointments. For giving me both moral and practical support I can not thank you enough.”

Sarah Caldecott

The Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund (MDIRF) was established by Mark Davies's parents Michael and Jane Davies in 1988. Mark was an up-and-coming star of the eventing world when he died as a result of an accident whilst competing at The Burghley Horse Trials. At the time there was no help available to assist injured riders, with the exception of jockeys.

The MDIRF is a national charity which provides much needed support in the following fields:

financial support, medical and legal advice, equipment including wheelchairs, special beds, house adaptations, funding for hospital visits, stable help, and cash grants or loans to help tide people over immediate problems. The MDIRF in addition to helping those in need, campaigns hard to improve safety standards with particular regard to head protection. The MDIRF remains the only charity available to help those in need following a horse related injury, outside the world of racing.
