What We Do
Many accidents occur whilst competing, though the majority happen while riding out from home. There are an average of two people a month left paralysed from a fall and many others are left permanently disabled through severe head injuries.
The MDIRF provides expert medical, legal and financial advice as well as moral support to both beneficiaries and their families, often all that is needed is a listening ear. Whilst in practical terms, the Fund has provided wheelchairs, special beds, house adaptations, stair lifts, physiotherapy, stable help and financial assistance to help individuals over their immediate and long term problems.
The MDIRF takes a leading role in issues relating to the welfare and safety of riders and plays a major part in issues of head protection and fixed fences as well as helping to lead the way in research, including the ENHAP comparison of protective helmets.
